Now the blood shall be a sign for you on the houses where you are. And when I see the blood, I will pass over you; and the plague shall not be on you to destroy you when I strike the land of Egypt. Exodus 12:13.
The Jewish Passover 2020 begins tonight Wednesday 8th April and concludes on the evening of Thursday 16th April. This, of course, is the commemoration of the deliverance of the children of Israel out of Egyptian bondage. However, specifically, this is the story of how God delivered His children from a deadly plague that had a spiritual origin – an angel of death. The antidote to this plague was the blood of a lamb on the doorposts and lintel of the houses of the believers.
Passover often evokes the idea that the children of Israel where ‘passed-over’ by the judgement, but in fact, the actual sense of the word is that God personally ‘passed over’ the doors of His people; literally – ‘hovered over’, ‘covered over’ or ‘shielded’ their doors to protect them from this plague (see Exodus 12:23). So as the death angel passed through Egypt slaying the firstborn, God Himself hovered over the doors of His children protecting them from this peril.
Surely, during this current pandemic, we have in the Passover story a reminder of how God is well able to preserve His people from harm. Some prophetic voices believe that there will be some kind of breakthrough over this disease during, or just after this Passover feast. What is certain is that we now can have victory over disease and death through our Passover Lamb, the Lord Jesus Christ: “For indeed Christ, our Passover, was sacrificed for us” 1 Corinthians 5:7. As we move this week toward Good Friday, we celebrate the fact that death and the grave have been defeated through the suffering and death of Jesus the Messiah! He has triumphed for us over disease, death and the devil!
No one is saying that Christians are automatically immune to coronavirus. Many of us have friends and relatives who have been affected already and perhaps some we know have tragically died of COVID-19. What we are saying is that we do believe that the Lord Jesus Christ has given us ultimate victory over death and disease. Jesus still heals and protects us when we shelter under His wings and by faith apply His blood to our lives.
So, however you are affected by this disease at this moment, whether you or a loved one has contracted it, or you are simply afraid that you may succumb to it. Rather than living in a giant shadow of this enemy, why not today PLEAD THE BLOOD OF JESUS and ask that God Himself will personally COVER YOU from all harm.
Let’s remember this Passover and Holy Week, as we approach Good Friday: we overcome Satan “by the blood of the Lamb and the word of…testimony” (Revelation 12:11). The word of our testimony is: testifying what the blood of Jesus does for us!
So let’s tell the devil and this COVID-19 disease about the victory that Jesus’ blood has given us over them! Let’s declare that we shall overcome by the blood of the Lamb and our great Father in Heaven who covers and protects us!
Heavenly Father, we thank You that You are Jehovah-Rapha: the LORD our Healer! We thank You that You are our Shield and Exceeding Great Reward! We thank You, Jesus, that You are our Great Physician who heals the sick and raises the dead! We ask You now that You would by Your Holy Spirit, shield and shelter us at this time and because of the shed blood of Christ, You would cover our hearts, our heads and our homes from the effects of coronavirus. We declare into the heavenly realms that WE ARE MORE THAN CONQUERORS THROUGH HIM WHO LOVES US! We ask that in this current crisis many people in our land and our world will turn to the Lamb of God for salvation. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
