With this in mind, we constantly pray for you, that our God may make you worthy of His calling, and that by His power He may bring to fruition your every desire for goodness and your every deed prompted by faith. 2 Thessalonians 1:11 (NIV)
Paul always seemed to know how to lead believers to be effective in bringing Jesus to their world. He knew the pitfalls, stumbling blocks and deceptions to avoid, while also knowing the important roots and spiritual foundations for life in Christ that produces blessing for individuals, families, communities and nations.
As we pray and seek God’s transformation for Ireland, Paul’s simple prayer above can inspire us to go on a journey that can lead into the fullness of God’s purpose. It all begins with dependence on God to make us worthy of our calling. We know it’s only Jesus who can make us worthy, but are we truly dependant on Him to complete that work? Paul said,
“…being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” Philippians 1:6 (NIV)
Truth is, it’s so easy to say we’re trusting God to complete that work, but to actually still rely on our good works, abilities, giftings, human understanding, religious activities, personal discipline or personal/financial sacrifice to enable us to feel worthy. It’s only because of the cross that we can be counted worthy of our calling; yet, because of the cross YOU ARE WORTHY!
So, rest in Christ, knowing that in Him, you are righteous! You have a calling from God to fulfil so
“…live a life worthy of the calling you have received.” Ephesians 4:1(NIV)
The most beautiful way to do this is to simply walk with Jesus, to keep in step with Him while always listening for the all-important whisper for direction, affirmation or warning. Rest in the simple fact that Jesus has transferred and gifted His righteousness to us and all we need to do is accept it, receive it, walk in it and allow this to shape our hearts from which the issues of life flow.
Lord, help me to totally depend on You! Help me today to know that because of the cross I am worthy to achieve Your purpose in my life and enable me to lay down every lie telling me that I am not. Help me to deeply understand that my best attributes or actions cannot cause me to be worthy. Holy Spirit walk with me and empower me today, create in me a godly confidence that will enable me to fulfil Your purposes with humility and grace! Amen.
