There is only One person in the entire universe who could make this statement, and at the same time have the power and ability to make it a reality for everyone who calls upon His Name.
In Isaiah 45:22, God is recorded as saying these powerful words:
Look to Me, and be saved,
All you ends of the earth!
For I am God, and there is no other.
The invitation from God to ‘look to me‘ is said in view of the declaration made in the previous verse 21, that He is a just God and a Saviour, and that there is none besides Him. It is because He eternally sustains this character that all are invited and can be assured to look to Him. These invitational verses are meant to bring us to the conclusion that we are helpless in ourselves to save ourselves. Like a man when drowning, looks desperately to someone on a boat to help him, or like a man when dying, looks in utter despair to a doctor for intervention, this verse 22 screams to all mankind, ‘look to Him’, in light of everything revealed about God, ‘look to Him!’ There is salvation in no other Name but the Name of Jesus.
Look to Him, and not to idols, not to any creature or creation, not to the work of your hands; not to your own righteousness and actions, not to anyone or anything accept to Jesus Christ in faith, for righteousness, for forgiveness, for abundant grace and peace, and for glory and eternal happiness.
He is to be looked to as the Son of God, whose glory is the glory of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth, as the Lamb of God that takes away the sin of the world, as the only Mediator between God and man, as the Saviour and Redeemer of lost sinners.
When you find yourself in the dark, look to Him for light, when feeling dead and hopeless, look to Him for life, when weak, look to Him for strength, when sick, look to Him for healing, when feeling conviction of sin, look to Him in repentance, when you are hungry, look to Him for food, when feeling oppressed or depressed, look to Him for deliverance, and when in mourning, look to Him for comfort.
What a privilege we have in Jesus, that we can “look to Him” in any and every situation. He is God and there is no other! But also, what a message we have to proclaim to the world! A message that brought the great Charles Spurgeon to Christ, a message that a dark and dying world is desperate for a church on fire to speak and live, a simple message, Look to Me, and be saved, all you ends of the earth, for I am God and there is no other.
Heavenly Father, thank You for salvation. Thank you for the comfort, power and assurance that there is in the Name of Jesus. Thank You for the simple yet life-changing gospel. Thank You that we can look to You at all times and in every season. Thank You for every time You helped and rescued us. Lord fill us with a burning desire to tell the world of Your life-saving gospel, to look to You and be saved.
