So Jesus said to those Jesus who had believed in Him, If you abide in My word (hold fast to My teachings and live in accordance with them), you are truly My disciples. And you will know the Truth, and the Truth will set you free … So if the Son liberates you (makes you free men), then you are really and unquestionably free. John 8:31-32,36 (AMPC)
Jesus, at the onset of his ministry, read from Isaiah 61 saying, “The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free.”
As we turn in faith to Jesus, we are liberated and can repeat the words of Charles Wesley’s hymn:
Long my imprisoned spirit lay
fast bound in sin and nature’s night.
Thine eye diffused a quickening ray,
I woke – the dungeon flamed with light!
My chains fell off, my heart was free;
I rose, went forth, and followed Thee.
The source of our freedom is Christ. And you will know the Truth, and the Truth will set you free. He is the personification of Truth.
Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life.” John 14:6 (NKJV)
His Word is Truth.
“Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth.” John 17:17 (NKJV)
The scope of our freedom is “really and unquestionably free”.
We are free… Stand fast, therefore, in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage. Galatians 4:31; 5:1 (KJV)
We are free indeed. Christ made us really and unquestionably free. But it is important that we continue/abide in His Word so that our minds are constantly enlightened to the Truth and we can experience the reality of living in the Truth, renouncing the lies of the enemy and announcing that we are free indeed.
We are free!
