When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, “Put out into deep water, and let down the nets for a catch.” Luke 5:4
It’s time to swim in deeper waters!
Recently as I sat in the stillness of a mild, summer morning I sensed God say: It’s time to swim in deeper waters!
I believed this word to be personal to me but, on reflection, it may well apply to many who take the time to read this devotional. ‘So, what else did you sense God say’, I hear you ask.
- We have paddled in shallow waters for too long.
Many of us have only been paddling on the edge of all God has for us. We have dipped our toes in the water but we have not fully immersed ourselves in the way that we know God has called us to. However, there is still so much more that He wants to launch us into. He has waters for us to swim in that will release His purposes and His blessing to many. The time for paddling in often, murky shallow waters is over.
- We have been afraid of deep waters for too long.
The enemy is not happy that we would even dip our toe in the water but he most certainly does not want us to swim in deeper waters, so He sows fear into our hearts. However, fear of going deeper is not based on truth but a lie. The time has come to fill our minds with the truth of God’s Word and take a step of faith into the deeper waters God is calling us into.
- We have listened to the wrong voices for too long.
Sadly, too many of us have listened to the wrong voices for too long. Satan, the deceiver, has used the words that people have spoken over us to cause us to hold back from pushing out into the deep. From today onwards, let’s determine to close out the voices that cause us to hold back from stepping into the purposes of God. It’s time to listen to voices of faith that encourage us to immerse fully in all that God has for us.
Father, in Jesus’ name, we ask that You would forgive us for not launching out into the deep. May we be like the disciples, heed Your voice and launch out into the deep. We thank You that when we do, we will see You perform miracles that will astound our friends and families. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
