God has called you, yes you! He has called you to great things!
Deuteronomy 6: 23 says, But He brought us out from there to bring us in and give us the land that He promised on oath to our forefathers.
The Israelite people had been in slavery in Egypt, but by the hand of God, they were brought out. God was setting a principle here early in the Bible in Deuteronomy 6:23, But He brought us out from there – He is One who brings people out of slavery.
Jesus calls people through His work on the cross, out of slavery to sin, to eternal life. When you turn to God and repent from sin, He brings you out from under the power of sin into abundant eternal life. Now if that’s all the calling of God was, that would be enough. Spiritually you are made alive, your sin that would pull you to hell is taken from you, that’s incredible. Now, as a Christian, you get to know God’s saving power in your life!
But that isn’t just it! God has more on His heart for His people, for you.
Deut. 6: 23 – He brought us out from there, to bring us in and give us the land that He promised on oath to our forefathers.
You aren’t just called out, you are called into something greater. Not only does God set you free from sin. He sets a calling on your life, He gives purpose and meaning to your life. It is right to say that purpose and calling are some of the things that God is serious about.
Ephesians 2:10 states, He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago. This means He gives you something to wake up for every morning.
The church has been likened to a hospital that is open for whosoever to come. It is true Jesus heals broken people, and forgives sinners, but not just to sit in the hospital ward flicking through some magazines and watching other patients come in. He saves, empowers and calls us to go out into this world on mission with a message of life. The gathering of believers then is not only a type of hospital, it is so much more! It is a teaching, worshipping, edifying, God-seeking calling and commissioning station. There may be an A&E section on arrival, but there are call-outs waiting for every believer to go out and make a difference where God has placed you.
You aren’t just called out of something, you are too called to something greater.
Romans 8: 28 says God calls people according to His purpose!
Heavenly Father, thank You that I am called, I am chosen, I am Yours. Help me live this life according to Your will, purpose and calling for my life. You have brought me out of slavery to sin, continue to bring me into all You have purposed and planned. You have my surrender, Lord. Amen
