Call to Me and I will answer you, and I will tell you great and mighty things, which you do not know. Jeremiah 33:3 (NKJV)
What an incredible promise! “Call to me and I will answer you…” This invitation was first made to Jeremiah. But it is extended to us as well. God says to Jeremiah, and through Jeremiah to us, “Call to me.” The word “call” in Hebrew, qara, means ‘to call forth and properly address by name’. It is a fervent expression of faith in God and trust in His goodness and power to act on your behalf. Remember, we are calling on the Great I AM!
The Amplified Bible says that God will “…show you great and mighty things, fenced in and hidden, which you do not know (do not distinguish and recognize, have knowledge of and understand)”. He will help us figure out things we couldn’t figure out for ourselves.
The secret (of the sweet, satisfying companionship) of the Lord have they who fear (revere and worship) Him, and He will show them His covenant and reveal to them its (deep, inner) meaning. Psalm 25:14 (AMPC)
The LORD is near to all who call upon Him,
To all who call upon Him in truth.
He will fulfil the desire of those who fear Him;
He will also hear their cry and will save them. Psalm 145:18-19 (NASB)
He’s not aloof and uncaring. He’s not too busy running the universe to help us. The Psalmist makes full use of this privilege:
Because He has inclined His ear to me, therefore I shall call upon Him as long as I live. Psalm 116:2 (AMPC)
The Lord is inclined to help us.
“Because he loves me,” says the LORD, “I will rescue him;
I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name.
He will call on me, and I will answer him;
I will be with him in trouble,
I will deliver him and honour him.
With long life I will satisfy him
and show him my salvation.” Psalm 91:14-16 (NIV)
Let’s call on Him and be encouraged with the words of Psalm 138:
On the day I called, You answered me;
You made me bold with strength in my soul. Psalm 138:3 (NASB)
