You Are Called to Mission

What is the greatest thing you can do with your life? – Be in relationship with Jesus Christ.

As a believer, what is one sure thing you are called to do? Mission! Tell others that they, too, can have a relationship with Jesus. Tell the good news that Jesus died to bring them forgiveness and has enabled them, through faith, to be reconciled to God.

The mission has been completed but is still to be fully completed. The greatest mission has been completed in that Jesus has died for our sins, taken the wrath of God against our sins on Himself at the cross, and shed His blood to forgive us and set us free. It is mission complete. Yet the mission of the church is still ongoing: to make disciples of every nation. You are called to mission, whether that be at home or abroad.

A beautiful prayer to pray is Psalm 2:8 Ask of me, and I will make the nations your heritage, and the ends of the earth your possession.

We are in a unique time in history to see God’s Kingdom come and make a huge dent in the domain of darkness. The call is to make disciples of all nations, whether home or abroad. Do not allow fear, busyness, or apathy to hold you back.

I have been privileged to be involved in many mission teams in foreign fields here and at home. But in every stage, I can confidently say that when you step out for God, He steps up for you. He is a providing God, He will provide the means, method and money for the mission He has called to you. I remember once at university, we had a huge money shortfall for a mission team. Miraculously and out of nowhere, God provided not only all we needed to go but several extra thousand to help minister to the needs we encountered when there.

When sending His disciples out to preach the word and heal the sick, Mark 6:8-10 says, He charged them to take nothing for their journey except a staff—no bread, no bag, no money in their belts—but to wear sandals and not put on two tunics. This isn’t a rule of thumb but Jesus was demonstrating here that God can provide needs as we go about serving Him on mission. This way, we live by faith and trust. He will provide what we need.

He will even provide our very words. We can get nervous about what we might say or how we might respond to someone. We aren’t out to win arguments but share our story and His story for God’s glory. Matthew 10:19-20 When they deliver you over, do not be anxious how you are to speak or what you are to say, for what you are to say will be given to you in that hour. For it is not you who speak, but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you.

You can even trust God to give you the words to speak.

You are called to mission, with the power and resources of heaven behind you. Be led by His Spirit.

Heavenly Father, thank You for saving me and for Your calling on my life. Help me to pursue my mission according to Your word and Spirit. Help me fulfil Your great call on my life. I look to You. Move in Your power, save, deliver and set free. Amen.
