The church is the most purposeful organisation in the world. Being a Christian enlists you in the most purposeful mission that you could be part of. The mission of God, yes, concerns our now, our purpose, our healing, our hope, and our lives. But the mission of God also concerns the lives of men and women, their souls, and their eternal destinies – whether they go to heaven or hell.

God places a direct, powerful calling on every believer’s life. We aren’t saved to sit and be sour, but we are saved to serve and seek the lost. Jesus said to His disciples: “As you go,” – across the street or the world, “As you go preach, saying, `Repent, The kingdom of heaven is at hand.’ Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out demons. Freely you have received, freely give. (Matthew 10:7-8)

A Christian is called to something far greater than themselves. God gives you a vision of something bigger than yourself. When that happens, your life will change. At the beginning of the New Testament, a relatively small group of believers turned the world upside down. Why? Because they got a taste of God, were given a calling and commission, and were willing to give everything for Him. They were willing to lay down their lives because who they were committing to was greater than anything or anyone they had ever known.

When you give yourself to God and commit to His calling, He looks after you better than you could. The Bible says, Matt 6:33, Seek first the Kingdom of God. Don’t seek after self, don’t seek after pleasure, don’t think it’s me first and then God – seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness.

When you get focused on His calling and plans, He gets involved with you, and as Romans 8:31 says What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us.

Yes, there are many great causes in the world, but the greatest of all causes is God’s cause, God’s calling and God’s mission. So what I am meant to do? The bible says, The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD, And He delights in his way. (Psalm 37:23 NKJ).

You are not called to do something mighty yourself – you are called out of slavery, into walking in step with God. Deut 6:23 says, He brought us out from there to bring us in and give us the land that He promised. To the Israelites, that was an actual land of promise to live in. Of course, for us, it’s heaven in the future, but it’s also to see God do something on our earth now: ultimately to save our families, towns, cities, and nations by the power of God!

Christian, God has revealed Himself to you and with His revelation in your heart He has given you responsibility. Responsibility comes from the Latin responsus, which means “to respond”.

Our life is a continual response to God’s continual grace, His continual leading, His continual Word.
CT Studd famously said: Only one life, t’will soon be past, only what’s done for Christ will last.

You are called to play a part in the greatest mission of all time, God’s mission.

What would be too great a cost? How do you respond?

Heavenly Father, here I am. Send me. Amen
